The Irish Echlinville distillery in the Ards Peninsula, County Down, was established in 2013 and is known as the home of Dunville's and Old Comber whiskey, as well as Jawbox gin. On 1 June 2024, the distillery revealed its inaugural Echlinville Single Estate whiskey—a set of two whiskies, to be precise.
Echlinville The Beginning is a set of two seven-year-old Irish whiskies - single malt and single pot still- offered at 50% ABV in 500ml bottles.
According to the distillery: "In a first for Irish whiskey, Echlinville – The Beginning is not only distilled exclusively from barley grown, harvested, and floor malted on our distillery farm, but every step of the process after that has been completed on-site at our family-run distillery."
The whiskies have been double distilled and aged between seven and nine years in oak. The single malt was aged in a combination of virgin American oak and ex-bourbon casks, while the single pot still has been exclusively aged in ex-bourbon barrels.
"Our whiskey speaks of the land from which it originates and the people who bring it to life. A Whiskey built on character, provenance, community tradition, time and above all, authenticity," said Shane Braniff, owner of Echlinville distillery.
The two-bottle release is limited to 750 sets in a presentation box and two sets per customer. The inaugural whiskey set is available from the distillery shops online and on-site and from selected retailers for £350 (US$446).
