John Glaser, the founder of Compass Box Whisky Company, is famously known as the original whisky maker. In an exclusive interview with The Spirits Business, he announced his exit from the company on the 29th of February 2024. After 23 years of revolutionising the industry, Glaser will leave the company in May 2024. However, he will remain a shareholder in Compass Box.

The news follows recent changes that have taken place within the company, including the discontinuation of the Hedonism core range expression, Caelum Capital taking over the majority shareholder status in 2022, and the appointment of ex-Bacardi executive Maurice Doyle as its CEO. In February 2024, Jeff Popkin, a former Stoli Group executive, was named Compass Box America's new CEO. The company has also searched for a new whisky maker for several months.

John Glaser founded Compass Box in 2000 and is credited with pioneering the first blended grain whisky on the market, Hedonism. He is often recognised for reinventing the blended whisky category.

We are excited to see what new adventure John Glaser embarks on in the future, and we look forward to seeing Compass Box's direction after Glaser's exit.
