Laggan Bay distillery in Islay Under Construction

Laggan bay distillery Islay

Islay is getting its 12th single malt whisky distillery. Laggan Bay distillery is a joint project by The Islay Boys and Ian Macleod Distillers Ltd and is due to open in 2025. The distillery is now under construction in Glenegedale, Laggan Bay, next to Islay’s only brewery, Islay Ales Co Ltd. The independent bottler, The Islay Boys, bought the now-updated brewery in 2018.

Laggan Bay will join the island's ten operational distilleries Ardbeg, Ardnahoe, Bowmore, Bruichladdich, Bunnahabhain, Caol Ila, Kilchoman, Lagavulin, Laphroaig and Port Ellen, as well as the Elixir Distillers Portintruan distillery which is currently under construction (due to open this year). Although there have been murmuring about the planned Ili distillery for years, there are no updates on the project.

The new Laggan Bay distillery will feature handmade copper pot stills. Little is known about the project, but more information will be available after the 2024 Feis Isle, Islay Festival at the end of May and during 2024.
